FAQ

What is the print quality of my LabelWriter?
The XL and EL series LabelWriter printers print with 203 dpi resolution. The 300 and 400 series LabelWriter printers print with 300 dpi resolution, which produces high quality, laser-like images.

Can I use my existing third party label stock with my LabelWriter?
LabelWriter printers require specially treated thermal direct labels that are not compatible with any other printing technology. These thermal direct labels must be compatible with DYMO/Costar Printers and stored properly.  We recommend that you use DYMO labels to ensure compatibility and quality.

How long I can expect my LabelWriter to last?
LabelWriter printers are designed to print 2 million inches of thermal labels, which equals more than 500,000 Standard Address labels. Of course, very few people print anywhere near that many. If you were to print 20 labels a day, each day of the year, it would still take you more than 68 years to reach that amount.

Is DYMO Label Software (DLS) compatible with ACT?
DLS is compatible with ACT! 5/2000, ACT! 6 and ACT! 2005/2006/2007.

How do I share my LabelWriter over a Windows network?

  • Verify that the LabelWriter you want to share is properly installed on your computer.
  • Open the Printers folder. Based on Operating System and system configuration, the Printers folder can be accessed in one of the following ways:
    • Start > Settings > Printers
    • Start > Control Panel > Printers & Other Hardware > View installed printers or fax printers
    • Start > Control Panel > Printers & Faxes
  • Right-click on the LabelWriter you wish to share and select Sharing. Enable sharing on the LabelWriter.  If you plan on using the LabelWriter in conjunction with the DYMO Label Software (DLS), ensure that the share name is compatible with the version of DLS installed.  Click here for more information on compatible share names.
  • On the network workstation, install DLS.  When prompted to choose a connection type, select Network/LAN and follow the on-screen instructions.  When installation is complete you should be able to print to the DYMO LabelWriter from both local and network workstations.

Note: If you are still unable to share your LabelWriter you will need to contact your System Administrator to resolve this issue for you.
